St George’s Day will be celebrated, this year, on the nearest Saturday, which is Saturday 21st April 2012.

The evening will take its normal form of a protracted, leisurely dinner interspersed with poetry and Shakespeare readings. If you think you have a strong, resonant voice and would like to make a reading, please ask John Kidson. Dress will be blazers or similar for men. Women can wear what they like, provided it is elegant.

At the end of the dinner we will sing patriotic and other songs for as long as people find it fun.

There will be toasts but no speeches.
There will be no raffle but we will have a “Heads and Tails” session for 5 minutes.

Colin Hodges and his geriatric musical friends will provide the musical accompaniment. Many you will remember the sterling job they did for us last year.

Paula will produce the 5-course dinner and the suggested menu is:

Beef Consommé with Croutons
Parma Ham and Melon
Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding
Lemon Cheesecake
Cheese and Biscuits
Coffee and mints

If we get 80 people dining, all this can be provided for a break-even ticket price of £21 per head.

Please book in as soon as you can and send your cheques (payable to Folkestone RFC) to the club marked “For the attention of John Kidson”, or pay Jill through her machine.

Non-Sassenachs are most welcome and this event is a fun celebration of being English. It is certainly not triumphal nor a political diatribe.

Hope you can join us.
