Football players - have you considered the funny-shaped ball?
- You have great speed, strength, and agility essential for tackling and evading opponents
- You’re accustomed to physical contact
- High fitness levels can help you maintain high energy throughout a physically demanding rugby match
- Your experience of teamwork and strategy will make it easy to integrate into a rugby team
- While the techniques for passing and catching differ you’ll usually have good hand-eye coordination
- You understand space and positioning so can read the game
Basketball stars – bring your footwork and throwing skills to the rugby pitch
- You have great conditioning, speed, and hand-eye coordination
- You have great passing skills
- You have good footwork and can make quick changes in direction, which can help with evading tackles in rugby
- You can play as part of a team. You’ll just need to adjust to different formations and strategies in rugby
Sprinters, distance runners, throwers – fancy a team sport?
- Sprinters can excel in rugby due to your explosive speed, helping you break through defences or cover ground quickly
- Middle-distance runners have excellent stamina, crucial in rugby where players need to maintain high energy levels throughout the match
- You have great agility, which helps you to dodge tackles and changing direction quickly
- If you’re a field athlete, especially throwers, may bring significant upper body and core strength, useful for tackling and scrummaging
- You are competitive and this can drive you to push your limits and improve quickly in a new sport
Martial Arts students – bring your strength to the pitch
- With your excellent physical conditioning you will have the high levels of endurance, strength, and agility needed for rugby
- Your experience with physical contact will help you adjust to tackling and being tackled
- Your mental resilience will translate well to the physical and strategic demands of rugby
