Sunday 18th September 2016 Kent U16 Development League Report from Andy Parmenter

Folkestone U16’s took on local rivals Dover in a Kent Development League match on Sunday. For both teams this was their first match of the season and it took a while for the players to shake off the close season rustiness. Dover managed this first, scoring an unconverted try. 5-0. Folkestone replied strongly and crossed for their first of 5 tries through Will Guy. 5-5. More pressure from Stones allowed Louis Watson to score and convert his try. 5-12.

Turning round 5-12 up Folkestone had the benefit of the slope and kept up the pressure on Dover launching attack after attack. These attacks lead to tries for Michael Candido, converted by Louis Watson, 5-19. Mark Ip-Lloyd, a converted try, 5-26 and a second for Louis Watson. 5-31.
Folkestone switched off in the warm sunshine with their lead at 5-31 and allowed Dover to respond with 2 late tries, both converted. 19-31.

Folkestone U16’s will take a lot from this match, especially a lesson in concentrating for 70 minutes, and their play bodes well for the season. Man of the Match was Nat Parmenter for his support play, tackling and turnovers.
